Emerging Leaders

Begin to think about your work. Do you see things that need to be changed or improved? Do you aspire to be a leader? Do you think perhaps you have some of the qualities necessary to lead others and make a larger impact in the field of early childhood education? This self-assessment will help you think through these qualities.

Set aside about 10 minutes to consider your attributes, your skills and your knowledge. Rate yourself from 1 to 3 on the following.

A rating of 1 indicates you are challenged by this attribute or skill, a rating of 2 indicates that you are learning or developing this skill or knowledge set and a rating of 3 means that you are proficient in this attribute or skill set.

You have what it takes!

I view problems as opportunities
I know how to set priorities
I am family and child focused
I am courageous
I am a critical and creative thinker
I can tolerate a higher than normal level of confusion and ambiguity
I have a positive attitude towards change
I am committed to innovations that are best for children
I have a personal organization style that allows me to get many things accomplished
I understand myself enough to listen to and understand diverse views

Adapted from the Leadership self-assessment from the National School Board Associations.
